Summary of the Primary School Council – November 11, 2025
Enrollment 2025-2026:
- 788 students in primary and 787 in secondary, for a total of 1,575.
- Over the past six years, the primary section, especially in kindergarten, has seen a decline (families enroll their children later at LFI Tokyo), while numbers in secondary continue to rise (due to cohort progression).
Language programs:
- The online meetings held by language teachers on September 26 to present language programs were highly appreciated by parents and will now be held every school year, using a system that allows more parent participation.
- Parents request clearer information on the PARL/SI admission criteria notice and more visible information on the LFI Tokyo website.
- Regarding substitute teachers, management explained that Japanese teachers handle short-term substitutions internally, while the English substitute teacher is currently engaged in a long-term replacement. When SI or PARL classes are affected by teacher absence, students temporarily rejoin the Standard French curriculum class. Only language sessions (2 × 45 min per week) are not made up for as students are supervised by an educational assistant (AED).
Post-meeting note: recruitment of a new English substitute teacher in process..
Safety:
- The road safety training conducted with Takinogawa Police for CM2 students last September was very successful and will be repeated next year.
- Parents expressed concern about heavy traffic near the school at rush hours. Establishing a “school zone” closed to cars is complex, requiring consultations and inspections with local authorities.
Pool closure:
- Parents expressed concern over the pool closure for the three weeks preceding the autumn break. The administration is working on improvement measures.
After-school & daycare:
- Parents noted a limited offer of preschool activities. The school considers current options fairly well-balanced.
- Parents asked if the holiday daycare could operate from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. like regular before/after care. The school replied this is not possible due to maintenance constraints, staff working hours, and building operating rules.
Inclusive support system (DAIS):
- Seven students from CP to 4ème benefit from this system, available between 12:45 and 16:15, according to individual schedules set with their teachers. They are accompanied by a support teacher (EBEP) and an AESH. Teacher feedback has been positive.
Screen use:
- The national curriculum requires pupils from Cycle 2 to learn digital tools, basic coding, and algorithmic thinking. The aim is to foster conscious, responsible use of digital media and awareness of cybersecurity. Parents seeking guidance can consult: https://jeprotegemonenfant.gouv.fr/
Projects & various actions:
- School trips planned for 18 classes; overnight stay at school planned for 6 GS classes.
- 15 students from CM1 to 2nde are preparing for the multilingual project “Ambassadeurs en herbe,” final in Canberra, Australia, March 2026.
- LFI Tokyo accreditation follow-up is scheduled for November 13–14 by Inspector Mme Dubie and IA-IPR M. Avril.
- Primary school teachers suggested allocating part of the 2025 raffle proceeds to buy pool boosters for preschoolers and fencing helmets for primary students.
- “Notre École Éco” teachers remind families to label clothes and check the lost-and-found to reduce waste.
- The EVAR (Emotional and Relationship Education) program continues with three thematic sessions per year. The primary progression chart was attached to the May minutes (see link).
- The pHARe anti-bullying program is now running effectively; a parent information document will be sent by email.
- Preparation for the ProZAP chess tournament (May 2026 at LFI Tokyo) is ongoing, with 10 participating schools from the AP zone and 96 visitors expected.
