Foreign language teaching evolution

Dear FLT Members,

We are happy to inform you on the foreign language teaching evolution in primary school

Your representatives have met LFI Tokyo’s management several times in order to discuss the foreign language teaching evolution currently under process.

Please find below available information at this stage.

2018-2019 school year

Bilingual sections with 50% French and English will be maintained as it currently is, in nursery and primary school.

Bilingual MS in nursery will be maintained.

Reform implementation schedule

– Continuous brainstorming with LFIT’s management, primary school teachers and parents representatives during Q2 & Q3 of current school year and Q1 of next school year 2018-2019.

– Finalization of the new curriculum by December 2018

– Implementation (by cycle and level) from September 2019.

Why an evolution?

A brainstorming has been initiated in October 2017 in order to align LFIT’s language teaching curriculums with 2015 guidelines of  the French Agency for French Education Aborad (AEFE) .

Nevertheless, those guidelines have just been revised.

AEFE is recommending in particular to set up a strengthen and adapted path in foreign languages (new acronym: PARLE) which will allow to implement new foreign languages curriculums with significant hours number of foreign language teaching, and to set up an international stream which could replace the current bilingual stream with a number of hours of foreign language teaching yet to be defined.

FLT’s actions

Your representatives are aware of the foreign language teaching importance for your children, especially in an international environment.

We have asked to participate to each and every step of the process in order to be able to inform parents and convey their expectations to LFIT’s management.

Do not hesitate to share with us your remarks and/or proposals!

Sincerely yours,

FLT-Fapée Team
