Summary of the Primary School Council Meeting on November 7, 2024
Your FLT representatives attended the Primary School Council meeting on November 7, 2024, at the Lycée Français International de Tokyo.
Here is a summary report:
Enrollment
The school has 1,567 students, with an 8% increase over 5 years, but a continuous decrease in preschool enrollment (-22%) partly due to late enrolment and a general demographic decline.
Languages and Education
- Increase in the number of students enrolled in the standard language track (40%), with a decrease in enhanced tracks (PARLE and SI, Japanese and English).
- The principal supports the parents’ suggestion to encourage language teachers to communicate at the beginning of the school year about the objectives, tools, and evaluation methods that will be used during the year.
- Moving from three to two report cards per year allows for more comments and is preferred by teachers. Teachers contact parents as soon as a problem is observed, without waiting for the end of the semester, and meet with parents upon request.
Educational Projects and Activities
- The “10 days without screens” challenge will be renewed in 2025 (tentatively from June 3 to 12), as feedback from students and parents on the 2024 edition was very positive in terms of well-being and family interactions.
- School trips are planned for 14 classes. As usual, financial support is available if needed through the solidarity fund (comptabilite@lfitokyo.org) to ensure all students are included.
- For GS and CP, a ‘Night at School’ project is being studied (in the dojo for GS, in tents on the soccer field for CP).
- Participation in international projects such as the Asia Chess Cup and Young Ambassadors.
- Kangaroo Math Contest for 5 CP, 2 CE1, 6 CE2, and 5 CM2 classes. Writing workshops with a children’s literature author for CM1.
- Christmas Run for Preschool-CP: December 19 (postponed to 20 if it rains)
- Christmas Run for CE1-CM2: December 12 (postponed to 17 if it rains)
Inclusive Education
Discussion of a planned experimental implementation of a ULIS-type system (Localized Units for School Inclusion) to better support students with special educational needs. This decision will need to be discussed and validated in a Board Meeting.
School Life and Well-being
- A questionnaire on bullying Awas conducted in several classes from CE2 to CM2 to detect potential bullying situations. Seven teachers participated in the pHARe training program (comprehensive plan for preventing and addressing situations of bullying), based on the shared concern method.
- The school festival is scheduled for May 24 (with a postponement to May 31 in case of rain).
