Summary of the Primary School Council of January 16, 2025

Primary School Council of January 16, 2025

Your FLT representatives attended the Primary School Council that took place January 16, 2025. Here is a summary report.

The full report is available here (in French) on the LFIT website

2 training courses on the pedagogy of mathematics will be offered in February and April to primary school teachers.

The National Education Inspector will visit Japan between mid-February and mid-March.

There is now a state-qualified substitute English teacher available for the Primary School, which has made it possible to ensure more classes are maintained in case a teacher is absent. In SI and PARL, in the event of the teacher’s absence, the students remain in the French class, so that there is no loss of teaching time.

We thank Ms. Kasuga, the Japanese language coordinator, for the table below, which clearly indicates the pace of learning kanji in Japanese as a Mother Tongue.

The pace of learning kanji slows down from CM1 for PARLJ compared to SIJ, which reflects the difference in objectives between the two courses. While SIJ students intend to continue the SIJ curriculum in college, the emphasis for PARLJ students is placed on interactions and speaking.

This information will be included on the LFIT website and in associated brochures.

The 1st semester report cards have been available on ProNote since January 19. Teachers reminded us that they are available to families who wish to meet with them to provide an update on their child’s progress, whatever the reason, even if no difficulty is reported.

The proposed calendar, as modified by a proposal from the teaching team, is adopted and will be submitted to the School Board.

The choice of options in 6ème will be made between April 1 and 15. An information meeting will take place on April 3.

The downward trend in enrollment may lead to the closure of a kindergarten class at the start of the 2025 school year. The closure of a CP class is also being considered, depending on future registrations. The FLT reports that families have indicated that they are delaying the registration of their children in kindergarten due to the increase in tuition fees. This has a negative effect on the students’ French language abilities. Teachers point out that a determining factor for success is that French-speaking parents speak French at home from a very young age (one-adult-one-language principle).

The latest weighings of lost items of clothing at Primary are encouraging and show that the “Zero Waste” campaign is working well.

We encourage families to label children’s clothing, which makes it easier to contact them. Lost clothing box is also available upon request.

The new bicycle racks installed in the parking lot are much appreciated, particularly by the students in the annex. The FLT and LFI Tokyo are pleased with this success, which will be extended with the installation of additional racks.

Although the BCDs are not able to accept donations, teachers have a library in each class available to students, and happily accept all donations of books and magazines (J’aime Lire, Astrapi, etc. ).

Two training sessions were offered to AESH and certain teachers and staff from LFI Tokyo and LFI Kyoto, with the help of FAPEE.

Several questions were asked to us regarding AESH scholarships. Unfortunately, the Primary School Council has no answer to provide. The subject will be discussed in the LFI Tokyo School Council and with the services of the Consulate.

The question of an educational inclusion system inspired by that of Lycee Francais de Tanarive remains posed. The FLT supports this project and would like it to succeed. We are following this topic carefully.

LFI Tokyo will welcome 6 to 8 students and 4 staff from LFI Kyoto on January 30 and 31.

A project to install beehives on the roof is being studied with the help of the Pirelli and Orano companies.

The children choir of Reims will be hosted on February 13.

A bento service will be trialed at the holiday club during the next holidays, if there is sufficient demand.
